It was decided at the committee meeting last night, that instead of a Secret Santa at the Christmas handicap race we’re going to do something a bit different.
We will be donating to a Toy Drive ran by the Motherwell Community Trust & the MFC Podcast to make sure underprivileged children in our area have a present on Christmas morning. All contributions are going to the Salvation Army in Bellshill.
So rather than bringing a gift for a fellow clubmate we ask that you bring a toy (any value, no matter how big or small) to the Xmas handicap race and the club will pass these gifts on.
The 2016 Christmas Time Trial took place on Sunday 11th December.
We had 21 athletes competing in this year’s 4 Miles Christmas Handicap on a fine December morning. Dougie O’Hare won the men’s race in 33:40 and Elaine Jamieson won the women’s race in 30:40 with Mae McIsaac picking up the Wooden Spoon (The JIm Tracey Award) in a time that would be easily forgotten. Well done to everyone who made it down to Strathclyde Park this morning.
Allan Cameron was voted Road Runner of the Year by his fellow athletes. A photo of Allan being presented with the trophy by Jim Tracey is attached. Well done Allan.
Thanks to Anne Hughes, Lynsey Sneddon, Margaret Hoolaghan and Mark Paterson for helping out.
N.B. The Christmas Handicap is a fun event and is not part of the Time Trial Championship for markers.
We had 32 RRs participating in this morning’s Christmas Handicap and this was our biggest turnout since records began.
Given the treacherous conditions because of the ice and frost, this annual event split into a fun run for the majority of the group with the small band of ‘serious’ (or seriously mad) RRs deciding to do the 4 mile race proper.
Emma Stevenson was first female and Tommy Sneddon was first male in the serious race, with Craig Mackenzie picking up the wooden spoon (The Jim Tracey Award). Congratulations to them for risking life and limb by competing in such crazy conditions.

Back at the Electric Bar around 40 RRs voted Mark Gallacher Road Runner of the Year – well done Mark you deserve all the accolades for your efforts this season. It was also Vicki Wright’s birthday and she was presented with a cake by Tracey Lamont from her fellow RRs.
Thanks to Anne Hughes and Lynsey Sneddon for helping out once again.
