Glenmore Lodge Weekend 2019

The Club are once again planning a training weekend in Aviemore.

At the moment we are trying to gauge interest for numbers so that we can get prices and firm up on plans.

For those who haven’t been on one of these training weekends before, we head up to Aviemore on Friday, checking in by 2pm.

You make your own way there or arrange to car share.

There is usually a run organised at 3pm before heading back to get changed for dinner.

You then have Friday evening to do your own thing.

Saturday morning is an interval session after your breakfast has been digested, followed by a short Pilates class after lunch.

You then have a few hours to yourself in the afternoon before dinner and a fun quiz on Saturday evening.

Sunday morning starts with breakfast followed by a run or walk depending on your preference.

Lunch is also provided on Sunday before heading home.

Accommodation is shared and full board.

We will also try to organise one or two talks over the weekend relating to running/training.

This weekend is open to both T&F and SE athletes. Previous weekends have taken place in September and this is the plan again this year depending on availability at Glenmore.

If this is something you are interested in, or would like further information on, please comment below or speak to Elaine Jamieson or Mae McIsaac.

MAC BBQ – 3rd July 2016

It’s been a few years since we had our last MAC BBQ, so now that we have all this good weather, it has put us in the mood to rectify that.   The 2016 MAC BBQ will take place on Sunday 3 July at Flower Fairies Garden Centre, Rosebank (next to The Popinjay Hotel) from 1.00 pm.

Club member Andrew Scott, has very kindly offered his premises, which means even if it isn’t quite the BBQ weather we’re all hoping for, it can still go ahead!!!

The club will provide disposable BBQs, all you need to bring is your own food, drink and seating.  This is a club BBQ, so is open to Track & Field and Endurance Runners, family and friends.  The Hughes Family have very kindly, once again, offered to arrange the ‘Traditional Games’ on the day!!  Have dry clothing at the ready!!

Previous BBQs have been well attended and enjoyed by everyone who’s been there, so we hope this one won’t be any different.

We look forward to seeing you all there, but in the meantime, if you have any questions, please speak to Elaine Jamieson.

Bute Highland Games 2016

The club is running a bus to the Bute Highland Games for a club day out on Saturday 20th August.  There is the 10K Road Race (not part of the championship) for those who want to compete and there are various other track races available for all age groups.

The bus is open to members, family and friends.  The bus will be free, although a small deposit may be required to secure a seat, this is due to the large number of late call offs in recent years.  Folk will pay for the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay themselves.

What we need at this stage is a note of the numbers who will be requiring the bus.  Elaine Jamieson has once again kindly offered to organise the bus.  If you would like a seat(s) please reply to the post on Facebook, speak to Elaine directly, or text her on 07951 960 469. Please spread the word.

More details about pick up points, times, and the return journey will be published a bit nearer the time.

Bute Highland Games – Saturday 22 August (Club Day Out)

This year’s Bute Highland Games (warning: website has a very loud sountrack) has been designated as a club day out once again.

The club will be running a free bus(es) from Wishaw/Motherwell to Wemyss Bay return.  You pay the ferry and yourself into the games.  As usual, family and friends are welcome and the bus is free for everyone going to the games.

The day typically starts with the MAC putting competition before we head for the games.  There is a 10K Road Race which is very popular with the Road Runners, however, this is not a championship race so there is no pressure.  Should you wish to enter, please fill in and return this form.

There are a whole host of Highland Games events and racing for younger age groups if they attend.

If you would like to go the Club Day Out, just reply to the post on Facebook or the message board with the number of seats you need on the bus.

Alternatively, let Elaine Jamieson know in person or by text (07951 960 469).

Autumn Endurance Weekend

We are delighted to confirm that an endurance training weekend in Aviemore has been arranged for Friday 4th – Sunday 6th September 2015.  Accommodation and meals have been arranged at the sportscotland National Centre at Glenmore Lodge, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, offering members the chance to participate in a number of training sessions in the spectacular Highland countryside.  All sessions will be led by Motherwell AC club coaches.

The proposed itinerary is that on Friday 4th September, members make their own way to Glenmore Lodge where bar meals will be available for purchase on arrival until 8.30pm.  Car sharing is suggested or train to Aviemore where a taxi transfer will cost a few pounds for the four mile trip.  Two nights accommodation based on twin rooms with breakfast, packed lunch and dinner on Saturday 5th September, and breakfast and packed lunch on Sunday 6th September  are included in the special rate.  Departure will be after lunch on Sunday.

Sessions will be available on both days with talks by specialists planned for both Saturday and Sunday.

Cost per person is £95 payable by 30th June.  Places are strictly limited to 40 based on twin accommodation (16 twin en-suite rooms and 2 x 4 bed outdoor lodges).  Due to the nature of the accommodation, the weekend is open to members aged 18 or over only on the date of departure.

To book places, please email ewencameron@motherwellac.com or text Ewen Cameron on 07979 149782

Spaces are available first come first served.  Please again note that prices are based per person sharing a twin room or lodge of four.
