CHRISTMAS TIME TRIAL will take place next SUNDAY 8 DECEMBER at Strathclyde Park Boathouse. Due to the Old Firm game we will be starting a wee bit earlier this year – 10.00 AM for a 10.20 AM START and meet afterwards in the ELECTRIC BAR @ 12 NOON for rolls and tea/coffee. All of the details about the event follow.
WHEN: Sunday 8 December, 10:00 am for a 10.20 am start.
WHERE: Meeting at Strathclyde Park Boathouse
WHO: Everybody is welcome to come along and run, or come along to cheer on your fellow athletes if you are unable to run. The emphasis is on fun and feel free to wear seasonal attire such as a Santa costume or Christmas top etc.
COURSE: The summer 4 mile route around the loch (usually run in reverse).
WINNERS & WOODEN SPOON: We will have a female winner, a male winner and a wooden spoon based on the current Time Trial rules (you must be a member and have completed two markers). Finishing times will be published but will not count towards the best of your last three runs or for markers.
DONALD MCCAFFER MEMORIAL QUAICH. In memory of popular and long term club member Donald McCaffer, his wife May donated a Quaich last year to be awarded at the annual Christmas Time Trial. The coaches decided that the first runner to cross the finishing line (you must be a member, ran in the last year and be on the handicap list) will be awarded this trophy. May will be coming along to present the trophy.
CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED KIDS. Over the last couple of years we have swapped the Secret Santa for a donation of a small toy(s) for underprivileged kids in the Motherwell area who are likely to receive nothing or very little on Christmas Day. Please don’t wrap up any presents you bring so that they can be sorted into age categories by the charity(s). Any donations will be gratefully received but are entirely voluntary.
AFTERWARDS: We meet in the Electric Bar around 12 Noon where we will have a roll and a tea/coffee before we do the presentations.
ROAD RUNNER OF THE YEAR: We vote for the Road Runner of the Year in the Electric Bar in a secret ballot. However, if you cannot make along you can send your vote to Joe Hoolaghan (email@example.com, or send him a private facebook message). There is no set criteria for the road Runner of the Year. It is not a prize for our best athlete as we already have numerous prizes for our top performers. It may be the person who shows real commitment to the club, who makes you feel welcome, who shows a positive attitude to training, who represents the club while racing at every possible opportunity, etc, etc.
We hope to see you there. Joe
