DW Fitness offer from Scottish Athletics

DW Fitness First have an offer for members of Scottish Athletics.  The below is taken from a message to be sent to their members.

Winter is the perfect time for any runner to take up a gym membership. For a successful spring and summer season, runners should incorporate a weekly indoor workout into their regime, working on core strength and mobility to help perform at a higher level and reduce the chance of injury. That’s why DW Fitness First are providing all scottishathletics members with an exclusive 4 month membership option saving up to 25% with no joining fee*

Every runner should incorporate a weekly indoor workout into their regime – working on core strength and mobility. Traditional weight training can do much of this, but also look to exercise classes such as Pilates and Yoga. Many of the country’s best long distance runners put their continued success down to core strength and flexibility while sprinters undoubtedly benefit from the explosive power a winter of weight training will provide. A treadmill is also a decent alternative to the road.

When choosing running gear, you need to think about your specific performance needs to ensure you run stronger, faster and longer. Jackets that allow performance movement, ventilation to manage heat and reflectivity for safety, tights that provide support and breathability and the right shoes to support you whether you’re on the tracks or off-road.

“I opt for the Nike Essential Flash Jacket” says Olympic 1500m finalist Laura Weightman. It offers breathability, reflectivity, venting to keep your body at the right temperature and a performance fit meaning you can run at pace. Read more on the best kit for winter running.
Go further and run anywhere with the DW Sports Winter Training Selection, with up to 50% off on selected prices.

Changing Clubs – A Reminder

Hopefully those affected have joined Motherwell AC however we have been asked to remind all those changing clubs to complete a Change of Club form for Scottish Athletics.

All members need to fill out the Change of Club form if they are moving from another club within 3 years of leaving that club.

Starters Needed for Scottish Athletics

Scottish Athletics are running short of Officials to cover all the events that go on in Scotland.  One of the lowest groups is the Starter/ Starters Assistant.

Therefore Scottish Athletics are running a Come & Try Starting at the Age Group championships on the 20th and 21st of August. Interested people can come along between 11:30 & 2:30 and be shown the ropes from a UK Athletics qualified Starter.

Without the expertise of Officials athletics in Scotland would not exist.

Please see this poster for more information.
