CSSAL Match 2, Kilmarnock 25 June 2017

What a great day for Team MAC in Kilmarnock today in the second league match. We were missing a few of our usual team members but despite this we did exceptionally well in numerous events. Well done to the whole team who did us proud with their positive attitudes and super performances in very windy conditions!

A huge thanks to our volunteer officials: Bob McCrum, Ross McLean, Andy Steel, Joe Lenzi and David Gilchrist. Your contribution is much appreciated and not only means that matches like these can run smoothly, but also earns the club valuable league points!

Many thanks too, to parents and coaches for their continued support and hard work.

Scrutinised results will be available shortly and recorded on the Po10 soon after that.

The next match is at Grangemouth on 6 August and coaches will keep their own groups advised about events and selection.

Go MAC!!

Scottish Indoor Masters Championships 2017

Motherwell A.C. Masters Sprinters Won 6 Gold and 2 Silver medals at the recent Championships in the Emirates Arena.

Alan Robertson (M35) won Gold and PB’s in 60m (7.26) and 200m (23.35s).  His 60m time in the heat was 7.24s equaling the Club record.

Alan was up against an ex-Scottish Internationalist and 2 current British Squad members.  He dominated the M35 Sprints with his superb start, drive, focus and control, particularly in the 200m being in the outside lane.

Jim Smith M70 won 4 Golds – 60m (9.05s), 200m (30.4); Long Jump & Triple Jump.  This success despite still recovering from a virus.

Jim, (72), sets a fine example of how Athletics can give a lifetime of fitness and fun.

Fiona Steele (W50) won Silver with a PB in 60m (8.93s).  She also won Silver in the 200m (29.42s). The strength and speed endurance gained from Rugby coupled with pure speed, improvement in sprint technique and starts from blocks, has resulted in a huge improvement for Fiona over the past year.

Jim & Fiona go on to compete at the British Masters Championships in London.

Our Road Running Section had 3 Athletes competing

  • Benny Hands (M55) won Gold in the 800m (02:23)

Age Group Championships: 11&12 February 2017

Well done to the athletes from T&F who took part in the SAL Age Group Champs (U13/15/20) at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow at the weekend.

On Saturday, Katie Howley (U13G) smashed her recently achieved shot putt PB by throwing another (86cm!) PB of 5.36m. She set a further PB in the 200m race, running it in 33.78. William Bailey (U13B) also found good form in his 60m race, in a time of 9.92 and ran a SB in the 200m, clocking a time of 32.85.

On Sunday, two more athletes ran well in the U15G 800m race: Joey Leach in 2.37.80 and Cara Baldwin in 2.53.38.

It was a great weekend of athletics. Thanks to parents for their support and officials for a well run event.

Open Graded Meet – 30th November 2016

The next indoor Open Graded Meet at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility is on Wednesday 30 November at 6pm. Entry and further information can be found here: https://www.q-buster.co.uk/NLOGM30NOV16.

The deadline for entries is 28th November and declarations appear to be open from 10am on 30th November. Athletes declaring on the evening should attend at least an hour before the start time of their first event to allow sufficient time to pick up race numbers and warm up. A coach from MAC will be available on the night to assist as required.

Open Graded meetings allow athletes of all levels and abilities to compete against others of the same standard. This is a fantastic opportunity for athletes, U11 and above to gauge their competition times/distances in a variety of athletic disciplines under competition rules. Athletes have the opportunity to set personal best times and all results are submitted to Power of 10.

Training will be available as usual for Track and Field athletes not taking part in the OGM.

Please discuss any further questions you may have with your coach.

National Age Group Championships – Grangemouth 2016

The U13s experienced some horrible wet and windy conditions on Saturday. Despite this, both Jenna Booth and Stuart Russell performed very well. Jenna qualified for the 100m semi finals with a time of 14.56, coming second in her heat. In the semis she ran a solid 14.96 into a strong wind, culminating in a very close finish over the line between her and three other athletes. Stuart faced driving wind and rain for his timed 800m final but ran with commitment in 2.31.96. He placed an excellent eighth overall out of a field of 43 runners.

On Sunday, U15 Iona Orr got to the final last three jumps in the Triple Jump with a first jump PB of 9.39m. Her last jump was another great PB of 9.49m to secure 6th place overall. Dylan Drummond secured a fantastic new PB time of 2.18.27 in the U15B 800m –  over seven seconds faster than his previous PB! Kirsty Irwin also ran in the U20W 800m race in a time of 2.40.35.

The weekend was a great experience for our athletes who enjoyed the buzz and atmosphere a national competition brings. Many thanks to our supporters and coaches as well as the SA officials, without whom these events couldn’t take place.

As a result, training that evening for those in the Intermediate Development Group (coached by Lesley, John and Craig) and Junior Development Group (coached by William and Vicki) will be cancelled. Middle Distance and Sprint Group athletes should check with their coaches about possible alternative training sessions.

Open Graded: Ravenscraig RSF 6.00pm, 30 March 2016

A wee reminder to encourage athletes to attend the Open Graded at Ravenscraig on Wednesday 30th March 2016.

It’s a great opportunity to compete for the first time or to get a new personal best.

The style of an open grade competition means that athletes are matched with other athletes on ability rather than by age or gender. As a result, athletes who are competing for the first time or who have had limited experience are able to be competitive against others who are in the same position. It also means that those who are more experienced and have been training longer can be pushed hard by competing against others in different age groups.

We would love to see lots of MAC athletes at this local event. Closing date is 27th March. Entries can be made online at http://www.nlleisure.co.uk/nll-events/open-graded-athletics-events.

Scottish National Indoor Age Group Championships: 5 & 6 March 2016

Some of our youngest athletes made their first ever appearance in a national competition at the U13/U20 and U15/U20 Age Group Championships in the Emirates Arena, Glasgow at the weekend. Great performances all round and some PBs too.

On Saturday, our youngest athlete, Stuart Hawkins, made it to the semi-final of the 60m and although he didn’t make the final, he achieved his second PB of the day in that race. Taylor Frame also bagged two great PBs in her 60m and 200m races. Cavan Marie was very close to her PBs in both events she competed in and performed well in a tough 800m race.

On Sunday, Zoe Hawkins knocked almost two seconds off her indoor PB in the U15G 800m race and was only three hundredths of a second off her previous best time outdoors.

A very worthwhile experience for all athletes in a slightly more formal race setting. Very well done everyone!

Results:

  • Stuart Hawkins (U13B): 60m(h): 9.36 (PB); 60m(sf): 9.21(PB); 200m: 31.34 ; LJ, 3.98m.
  • Taylor Frame (U13G): 60m: 9.62 (PB); 200m: 32.19 (PB).
  • Cavan Marie Ryan (U13G): 800m: 2.54.47; LJ: 3.53m.
  • Zoe Hawkins (U15G): 800m: 2.36.46

Open Graded Event: Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, 30th March 2016

The next Open Graded event is at Ravenscraig RSF on 30th March at 6.30pm. This is another great opportunity for everyone to compete indoors and get a time/distance registered.

Events available are: 60m; 100m; shot putt; long jump and high jump. Event times and further details, including how to enter, can be found here: http://www.nlleisure.co.uk/nll-events/open-graded-athletics-events .

When registering online, you will be asked for your Personal Best (PB). If you have competed previously you can get this from Power of 10:  http://www.powerof10.info  or check with your coach. For track events, athletes are grouped into heats based on their PB and will compete with people of a similar ability.

Each event costs £3 to enter and it is usually pre-entry only. Please arrive an hour before the start time of the event(s) you have entered to warm up and collect your race number. One of our coaches will be there to assist and support athletes as required.

It would be great to see lots of Motherwell AC vests at a local event, but if you can’t make it, there is still the opportunity to train as normal.

Youth Development League 2016

The Team NL Youth Development League 2016 Trials and NL Club Challenge Championships will take place at Wishaw Sports Centre at 10am on 12 March 2016 for athletes from Motherwell AC, Cumbernauld AAC and Airdrie Harriers.

The Scottish Youth Development League (Div.1), includes the composite Team NL, made up of athletes from MAC, Airdrie and Cumbernauld.  Qualifying for Team NL presents a great opportunity to train with athletes from other NL clubs and represent NL in three top quality competitions;

Although the YDL fixtures during the season are only for the U13, U15 and U17 age groups, this competitive and fun event is open to all from U11 through to U20 and we would encourage all athletes to take part, if possible.

There will be no registration for events on the day, so all entry forms must be completed and returned NO LATER THAN WED 2nd MARCH.

A pre-entry form can be obtained from your coach.

T&F Winter Training Arrangements

Please note that for those who train with William, Jill, Lesley, Craig and Steven on a Wednesday night, training in December and January is at Braidhurst Sports Barn in Motherwell at the usual time of 6-7:45pm.

Athletes should not just be dropped off but taken in to the facility and not left until a member of the coaching team is there.

We will collect £1 from each athlete to help cover the cost of the hire of the hall (this is instead of the £1.80 paid for Wishaw).

With the recent track closures it has come to our attention that we may not have the most up to date contact information – if your details have changed please let a coach know and our records will be updated.

For those who train with Jill, Lesley, Craig and Steven please see the training calendar which lists

  • Training Sessions
  • Open Graded Events we are encouraging the group to enter and
  • Indoor Competitions (the team is selected by the coaches).

If you have any questions, please contact one of the coaches.
