Please see the letter below from our Club Chair, Tracey Lamont about an opportunity to aid the safe registration of young athletes on a Wednesday evening. It was given to parents on 5th September.
NOTE: the club is looking for volunteers for other positions too and is grateful for any and all help given.
Dear Parent / Guardian
I would like to ask you to please consider helping to support and ensure the safe running of Motherwell Athletics Club training for your child and the others who also attend on a Wednesday evening.
Motherwell Athletics Club relies on volunteers to enable the safe, quality coaching and positive learning experiences all athletes have when they come to training and are involved in other internal and external opportunities offered throughout the club.
On a Wednesday night at Wishaw Sports Centre we need people to undertake the registration and help keep the records up to date from 5.35pm to 6.15pm . This is a simple but essential role. At present Pauline Russell (Welfare Officer) has been helping out with this role on a short term basis. We need a couple of parents/guardians to now take this role on to continue enabling the coaches to concentrate on the coaching. This is particularly important for the continued coaching for children under the age of 16.
Anyone who is able to help with this please let any of the coaches know as soon as possible. Someone in the club will help support you in this role until you are confident to do it yourself.
Anyone who takes on this role would need to undertake a PVG disclosure which the club will arrange at no expense to the volunteers.
Motherwell Athletics Club Chairperson

Are you aged 35 or over? Would you like to try athletics?
Our masters athletes are hosting a come and Try event
- On Monday 20th August at 6:15pm
- At Wishaw Sports Centre Track
Please see the flyer below for more details.
Wishaw Track remains closed this week and alternative training venues are being arranged.
- The Sprinters at Strathclyde Park “Bandstand” Hamilton Rd end.
UPDATE – 1pm (22nd May)
Instead of paying the more expensive NLL track charge, athletes should bring £1 to offset the venue hire costs.
Please look out for Facebook/website news posts and coaches instructions at training sessions.
Wishaw Track is closed again tonight (16th May) for repairs. Alternative training venues are as follows:
Meet at the Bandstand at the Hamilton Road entrance to Strathclyde Park.
Middle Distance/Intermediate Development and Junior Development Groups:
Meet at Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds reception area (ML3 6EF).
Please contact your/your child’s coach if you have any questions.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
Further to the announcement that the Senior Endurance athletes shall train at Strathclyde Park on Saturday, all athletes should note that Wishaw Track is closed.
Track and Field athletes should speak to their coach (if they have not already heard) for alternative arrangements (some are at YDL; for some the session is cancelled).
Good news! It has been confirmed today by management at Wishaw Sports Club that the track is now open and available for use.
Training for all T&F athletes will therefore revert to the usual venues and arrangements from Monday 15th May.
Please contact your coach if you have any questions.
A reminder to all T&F athletes that the track at Wishaw is due to close from 1 – 14th May 2017.
A booking has been made during this closure period at Dalziel Park Track, Dalziel Rugby Club, Hagen Dr, Motherwell, ML1 5RZ.
All training sessions will take place at the usual times and athletes will be asked to pay £1 to contribute to the hire costs at this venue.
Training arrangements for the various groups will be therefore be as follows:
- Monday 1st & 8th May and Wednesday 3rd & 10th May: Dalziel Park track.
- Saturday 6th & 13th May: check arrangements with coach directly.
Middle Distance Group
IDG (Lesley’s Group)
JDG (William’s Group)
Coaches will provide information about further arrangements in the (hopefully) unlikely event that the track at Wishaw does not reopen as planned.
The last full T&F club training session will take place on Wednesday 21st December 2016 at Wishaw Sports Centre. All groups return to usual training on Monday, 9 January 2017 at Ravenscraig RSF and Hamilton Palace Grounds and on Wednesday, 11 January 2017 at Wishaw Sports Centre.
Coaches for each group will be in touch directly with details of training arrangements over the holiday period, especially for those athletes competing in the first Indoor League Meet at the Emirates on 8 January 2017. Please contact your/your child’s coach for further details, if required.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment during 2016. Wishing you all a happy and peaceful time over the festive season.
From 14th November to 19 December 2016 and from 9 January to 13 March 2017 (6pm-7.30pm), the following groups will all train indoors at the Ravenscraig RSF track.
