Please see the letter below from our Club Chair, Tracey Lamont about an opportunity to aid the safe registration of young athletes on a Wednesday evening. It was given to parents on 5th September.
NOTE: the club is looking for volunteers for other positions too and is grateful for any and all help given.
Dear Parent / Guardian
I would like to ask you to please consider helping to support and ensure the safe running of Motherwell Athletics Club training for your child and the others who also attend on a Wednesday evening.
Motherwell Athletics Club relies on volunteers to enable the safe, quality coaching and positive learning experiences all athletes have when they come to training and are involved in other internal and external opportunities offered throughout the club.
On a Wednesday night at Wishaw Sports Centre we need people to undertake the registration and help keep the records up to date from 5.35pm to 6.15pm . This is a simple but essential role. At present Pauline Russell (Welfare Officer) has been helping out with this role on a short term basis. We need a couple of parents/guardians to now take this role on to continue enabling the coaches to concentrate on the coaching. This is particularly important for the continued coaching for children under the age of 16.
Anyone who is able to help with this please let any of the coaches know as soon as possible. Someone in the club will help support you in this role until you are confident to do it yourself.
Anyone who takes on this role would need to undertake a PVG disclosure which the club will arrange at no expense to the volunteers.
Motherwell Athletics Club Chairperson

Please see the announcement from North Lanarkshire Leisure.
Thanks to all who responded to the consultation.
Congratulations to everyone who competed yesterday at SAIL Match 2. There were lots of PB’s and super performances.

What another great day for our athletes who competed yesterday at Grangemouth, with more impressive PBs and excellent performances all round.
We had a lower turn out than usual, (as a result of other events taking place and holidays) but a big well done to athletes across all age groups, from the U11s to Masters, who worked so hard and performed with such grit and determination. You continue to inspire and encourage coaches and we are very proud of all of you!
Many thanks to our volunteer officials and the Admin team: Bob McCrum, Angela Downie, Pauline Russell, Ross McLean and David Gilchrist. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks also to parents, family and friends for your continued support and enthusiasm at events like these.
All results posted on the day are subject to scrutiny. Official results will be available shortly via the Po10 results pages.
A few of our U13 T&F athletes made the journey through to Livingston and bagged some super new PBs!

Emma Kelly: 100m – 14.96(PB) and LJ – 2.94(PB);

What a great day in the sunshine at our first league match in Ayr. Lots of PBs and super performances from our athletes, both young and more mature! It was fantastic to see athletes enjoying themselves, particularly those who hadn’t previously competed for the club.
Thanks to coaches for all the pre-competition preparation work and, as always, for their support on the day. Thanks also to our volunteer officials: coaches, Bob McCrum and Audrey McLaren; parents: David Gilchrist, Donna Marie McGovern, Garry Hawthorn, and Lauren Ross. Your efforts are much appreciated. The club has gained valuable league points because of your contribution!
Official results, which are subject to scrutiny, will follow on the Po10 shortly.
The next match is on 25th June in Kilmarnock.
Good news! It has been confirmed today by management at Wishaw Sports Club that the track is now open and available for use.

Following on from the Scottish Masters, at the British Masters at the weeked;
- Jim Smith won Bronze in 60m and Silver in 200m, Long Jump and Triple Jump.
- Fiona Steele was 5th in 60m and Gold with a PB in 200m.

Many congratulations to all.
Motherwell A.C. Masters Sprinters Won 6 Gold and 2 Silver medals at the recent Championships in the Emirates Arena.
Alan Robertson (M35) won Gold and PB’s in 60m (7.26) and 200m (23.35s). His 60m time in the heat was 7.24s equaling the Club record.
Alan was up against an ex-Scottish Internationalist and 2 current British Squad members. He dominated the M35 Sprints with his superb start, drive, focus and control, particularly in the 200m being in the outside lane.
Jim Smith M70 won 4 Golds – 60m (9.05s), 200m (30.4); Long Jump & Triple Jump. This success despite still recovering from a virus.
Jim, (72), sets a fine example of how Athletics can give a lifetime of fitness and fun.
Fiona Steele (W50) won Silver with a PB in 60m (8.93s). She also won Silver in the 200m (29.42s). The strength and speed endurance gained from Rugby coupled with pure speed, improvement in sprint technique and starts from blocks, has resulted in a huge improvement for Fiona over the past year.
Jim & Fiona go on to compete at the British Masters Championships in London.
Our Road Running Section had 3 Athletes competing
- Benny Hands (M55) won Gold in the 800m (02:23)

Temporary suspension of membership for Track and Field
To ensure a manageable ratio of Coaches to Athletes we have had to start, with immediate effect, a waiting list for those who wish to join Motherwell A.C. Track and Field.
Please leave name and contact details with our Secretary, Committee member or any Coach. Bob McCrum, (Level 3 Development Coach), will be in contact when the situation changes.
If your child is at Primary School it may be of interest to contact Kat Heron of
N.L. Leisure (firstname.lastname@example.org) who will give you details of the Run, Jump, Throw Club which takes place at Ravenscraig Sports Complex on Tuesday evenings from 6pm. Coaches from Motherwell A.C. take these sessions during which time, Athletics Events skills are coached over a 10 week period.
We will hopefully be in a position to review the situation during the Summer months after a period of active Coach recruitment.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Motherwell A.C. Coaches and Committee.

For Monday Nights
Well done to everyone who competed in the final CSSAL Match of the season in Kilmarnock on Sunday 28th August. The club was represented by athletes from both Track and Field and Senior Endurance. We also had a number of athletes competing for the first time in their MAC vests.
Delays meant that there was a risk of the relays not going ahead, but thanks to the hard work of officials and helpers, they were all completed just before the deadline at 6pm.
There were some outstanding performances and new PBs made in a busy but fun environment. Official results will follow shortly.
Thanks again to parents, athletes, supporters and coaches for their valuable contribution to these events. We are all now looking forward to the LAAA Champs on Saturday and the Club Championships on the 11 September.
The MAC Annual Club Championships will take place at Wishaw Sports Centre on Sunday 11 September 2016.
The first event will be the Senior Endurance/Road Runners 3K Track Championship Race and those taking part should attend by 9.30am for a prompt start at 10am. Registrations open for Track and Field athletes at 10am in the portacabin by the track, with the first event of the day starting at 11am. A draft order of events is attached. We should be finished by 4pm at the latest.
A wee reminder too that everyone taking part must be club members and should make sure their annual membership is up to date. As always, we will require lots of helpers to ensure that the day is a success and would appreciate offers of assistance from coaches, parents and senior athletes with various tasks including timekeeping, placing and at the various field events.
We would love to see as many athletes as possible competing on the day. It’s usually lots of fun with medals and awards being presented at the club prizegiving night in November (details to follow). Home baking donations are very welcome too!
Here’s hoping we have good weather on the day.
The U13s experienced some horrible wet and windy conditions on Saturday. Despite this, both Jenna Booth and Stuart Russell performed very well. Jenna qualified for the 100m semi finals with a time of 14.56, coming second in her heat. In the semis she ran a solid 14.96 into a strong wind, culminating in a very close finish over the line between her and three other athletes. Stuart faced driving wind and rain for his timed 800m final but ran with commitment in 2.31.96. He placed an excellent eighth overall out of a field of 43 runners.
On Sunday, U15 Iona Orr got to the final last three jumps in the Triple Jump with a first jump PB of 9.39m. Her last jump was another great PB of 9.49m to secure 6th place overall. Dylan Drummond secured a fantastic new PB time of 2.18.27 in the U15B 800m – over seven seconds faster than his previous PB! Kirsty Irwin also ran in the U20W 800m race in a time of 2.40.35.
The weekend was a great experience for our athletes who enjoyed the buzz and atmosphere a national competition brings. Many thanks to our supporters and coaches as well as the SA officials, without whom these events couldn’t take place.
Training for the Intermediate Development Group next Monday (22nd Aug) will take place at Wishaw track rather than Hamilton Palace Grounds.
Training for the Middle Distance Group on this date is cancelled due to the group’s participation in an OG event at Crownpoint on the 23 August.
Please contact your coach if you have any further queries.
The results are now available via the Po10 for the latest OGM at Wishaw.
There were plenty of PBs from athletes in both the T&F and Senior Endurance sections of the club. Well done everyone!
Entries for the LAAA T&F Championships at Wishaw on 3rd September 2016 are now available via Entry Central.
This event is pre-entry only this year and all entries must be received by 27th August 2016, at the latest. No entries will be taken after this date or on the day.
Only members of Lanarkshire clubs qualify for medals, so please make sure your membership is up to date. If you are unsure of which event(s) to enter please consult your coach before doing so.
Once again, it would be great to see a good MAC turnout at this local event.
What a great day for Motherwell AC athletes at the YDL Scottish final in Grangemouth on Sunday 31st July. There were more fabulous PBs and medal winning performances. Every single one of our athletes did the Club proud once again and it was great to see them all give their very best today. Thanks to everyone who came along to support and help, and to all of Team NL for making the journey from the trials on 12 March, through the three matches to the final, a well organised and memorable one for us all.
The day got off to a good start with Stuart Hawkins bagging a massive 24cm silver medal winning PB in the long jump. Stuart was also a member of the U13B 4x100m relay team which won a silver medal in an exciting race at the end of the day. Stuart Russell also won a silver medal for another exceptional PB performance this year in the U13B 800m.
The 4x100m U13G relay saw a strong performance from Jenna Booth who also delivered a great PB in her 75m race. Both Cavan Marie Ryan and Beth Agnew were delighted to achieve well deserved PBs in the LJ.

The next competition coming up in our calendar is the OG Meet at Wishaw on 10th August. It would be great to see lots of MAC vests there competing and supporting a local event.
Entry is available via Q-buster. Please see the previous post for further details.
The next NLL Open Graded Meet will take place at Wishaw Sports Centre on Wednesday 10 August, 2016. As a result, there will be no club training session that evening for the Junior and Intermediate Development Groups and the Sprint Group. Middle Distance Group athletes should check arrangements with their coach.
This is another opportunity for everyone to compete outdoors in familiar territory and we would encourage athletes (including new and current non members) to take part in at least one event.
Events available are: sprint hurdles; 200m; 300m; 400m; 1500m; long jump; triple jump; javelin and high jump.
Further details, including the entry form and age restrictions, can be found on Q-Buster.
Events are PRE ENTRY ONLY by 8 August 2016. Declarations open from 5.30pm.
Start lists and heat information will be emailed by NLL to those who have entered online, usually the day before the Meet. Please arrive at least an hour before the start time of the event(s) you have entered to warm up and collect your race number.
Your coach will be happy to help if you require further information.

Training on Wednesday evening will go ahead as usual for the Junior Development Group (coached by William & Vicki) and the Intermediate Development Groups (coached by Lesley, John, Craig and Steven) and we look forward to seeing you there. Training arrangements for other groups will be confirmed by the coaches for those groups.
The club is running a bus to the Bute Highland Games for a club day out on Saturday 20th August. There is the 10K Road Race (not part of the championship) for those who want to compete and there are various other track races available for all age groups.
The bus is open to members, family and friends. The bus will be free, although a small deposit may be required to secure a seat, this is due to the large number of late call offs in recent years. Folk will pay for the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay themselves.
What we need at this stage is a note of the numbers who will be requiring the bus. Elaine Jamieson has once again kindly offered to organise the bus. If you would like a seat(s) please reply to the post on Facebook, speak to Elaine directly, or text her on 07951 960 469. Please spread the word.
More details about pick up points, times, and the return journey will be published a bit nearer the time.
At present the UK Athletics, UK Members Council has a vacancy for an Affiliated Club Representative and this position is not due for election until 2017, with the successful candidate taking up their position at the AGM in December 2017.
Following consideration of this situation the Council members unanimously decided at their meeting on 28 February 2016 to seek nominations for a new role to fill this vacant position with an individual to be nominated by the Affiliated Clubs of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales who have Track and Field as a discipline.
Nominations are, therefore, invited for one Track and Field Affiliated Club Representative for the Celtic Nations.
A shortlist of two nominees from each Celtic Nation will be put forward for interview, subject to this number of nominations being received by each Celtic Nation.
The nomination form, details of the role and of the appointment process are enclosed and are also available from the British Atheltics website.
If you wish to put yourself forward as the Motherwell Athletics Club nomination, please submit your personal resume to Peter Blackmore by Friday 22nd April.

Official results to follow, but well done to those who participated and thanks to everyone who came along to support our athletes.

Motherwell Athletics Club thanks two of its coaches, Elizabeth Martin and Luke McIlvenna as they cease coaching at MAC to take up new and exciting roles.
Elizabeth’s recent retirement from Coaching is understandable due to her business commitments. We will all miss her but wish her lots of success in her future work adventures.
Elizabeth has shown great commitment to the Club and our young Athletes over several years. She has all the positive attributes of what makes a great Athletics Coach – a high degree of Technical Knowledge, good communication & organisation skills, kind, thoughtful and encouraging.
You would be welcome anytime to help out during a session so keep the licence up to date.
The whole club thanks Elizabeth for her long contribution to the club and its athletes.
Luke is another Coach who has had to resign from the Club due to an opportunity arising in Australia. A PhD is beckoning – too good a chance to miss.
Best wishes to Luke and thanks for all the Coaching sessions you spent with the Club and with the Ravenscraig Run, Jump, Throw Club. We’re sure your Coaching skills will be put to good use Down Under.
Thanks to Bob McCrum for providing the tributes to Elizabeth and Luke.
